Sun protection films

Glass plays an increasingly important role as a building material in modern architecture. As a consequence, rooms heat up intensely. Sun protection film can not only protect you from heat and glare, but can improve the appearance of a building considerably.

Sun protection film is an optimal, cost effective alternative to sun and warmth protection glass. The film can be applied subsequently to almost all glass surfaces without removing the window panes. Sunlight that is too strong has an effect on concentration and performance (e.g. in the workplace). Sun protection film can help.

Bright sunlight and glare can be reduced to a large extent using a sun protection film. Apart from protection from sunlight, warmth and glare during the day, sun protection film additionally provides visibility protection, so that you cannot look in from outside, but can look out from inside. Sun protection film comes in different colours and designs. Depending on the density of aluminium condensation you can achieve sun protection that reflects and absorbs between 50% and 80% of infrared sun rays.

Sun protection film can be fitted internally or externally.

Here are some advantages and disadvantages:

Internal fitting:   External fitting:
Film fitted on the inside has a considerably longer shelf life than one fitted on the outside, since it is not exposed to adverse weather conditions. However, please observe that it cannot be fitted on to any type of glass.

Film fitted on the outside reflects back sunlight directly and the window pane does not heat up. An external film should be used for sloped windows, roof windows and overhead glazing, as well as sun and warmth protection glass and for gas filled double glazing, since an internal film could cause thermic stresses in the glass, and the glass could break as a consequence. Sun protection film should not be stuck on parts of the surface.

  Transmission:
Sum of the total radiation intensity, penetrating through a given glazing system. Expressed as a percentage:
100 % = perfect permeability
0 % = total non-permeability
  Absorption:
Radiant energy that is absorbed by the glass and radiant energy converted into warmth. It is partly stored in the glass and is transferred inwardly or outwardly depending on the drop in temperature. Expressed as a percentage:
100 % = perfect permeability
0 % = total non-permeability
  Reflection:
Sum of sun’s energy reflected outwardly from the glass. Expressed as a percentage:
100 % = perfect permeability
0 % = total non-permeability

UV - Transmission:
Sum of ultraviolet sun rays penetrating through the glass. Expressed as a percentage:
100 % = perfect permeability
0 % = total non-permeability
Total amount of radiation reduced on the glass:
Sum of total amount of the sun’s energy, reflected back: Expressed as a percentage:
100 % = perfect permeability
0 % = total non-permeability
